Prestige Classes
As you may know, the world of Natuk, Tower of Darkness, and Pirates of the Western
Sea is the same world (Nym) that I use in my D&D campaigns. This world has been around since the late 80s,
and has been used for 1st edition AD&D, 2nd edition
AD&D, GURPS, and most recently, 3rd edition D&D.
In this newest version of D&D, there are "prestige classes", more specialized
classes that can be multiclassed into, generally when a character hits
mid-level (5th to 9th level or so). I use the prestige
classes from the DMG as well as the ones that have been appearing in Dragon
magazine. In addition, because of my fondness and nostalgia for 1st
edition AD&D, I use the Acrobat class (by Beau Yarbrough, based on 1st
edition thief-acrobats) and created the Strider class (based on 1st edition
rangers).
Most of the prestige classes I use are "generic" sorts, contrary to the DMG's advice
that they should be tied to organizations in the campaign world. My problem has
been that I have been using these organizations for years without the benefit
of prestige classes, so it will take me a while to get used to that concept. In
any case, I present for your enjoyment three "generic" classes -- Archers,
Beastmasters, and Striders, as well as a link to the Acrobat class:
acrobat.rtf: not
by me, but I use it anyway. External link.
archer.rtf: highly specialized arrow-slinger, non-magical
(unlike the Arcane Archer)
beastmaster.rtf: Tarzan says "heel!"
strider.rtf: a recreation of 1st edition rangers
Feel free to use these classes in your own campaigns, but please leave my name
on them unless you decide they need to be revised or something.
